Support & Advice

Our support to Horn of African people living with HIV is mainly by providing interpreting and advocacy work with doctors, solicitors, social workers and housing officers. We provide advice on sexual health and accessing appropriate services. We also provide emotional and social support for our clients mostly for those with no family support.

MALEDA (Dawn)

Maleda is a mixed gender support group for Ethiopians and those who speak Amharic (Ethiopian language) who are living with HIV. It started on April 2003 and has five members.

The group aims to

  • provide peer/emotional support, to meet other people living with HIV.
  • empower people with culturally and linguistically appropriate HIV and sexual health information.
  • create an environment to address issues related to HIV
  • provide opportunities for volunteer work.

Maleda runs on the third Tuesday of every month 4.30 to 6.30 pm.

Topics covered by speakers and facilitators include healthy living, treatment, side effects, accessing services and positive attitude. Activities include watching videos on adherence and testimonies of people living with HIV.

We also provide travel expenses (if appropriate).

For further information please contact Bisrat Yigletu on 0208 7411879, Monday to Wednesday 10.15 am to 5.15 pm.
